Edward Starlin Salcedo (July 30, 1991 in La Vega, Dominican Republic) is a shortstop in the Atlanta Braves organization, who played for the single-A Rome Braves for the majority of the 2010 season. He was signed by the Atlanta Braves on February 23, 2010 to a minor league contract. His $1.6 million signing bonus is the largest the Braves have ever given to an international prospect. The Braves say they regard the 6-foot-3 Salcedo as a first-round talent who is projected as a strong offensive and defensive player. He was named the 9th best Atlanta Braves prospect according to Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus.[1]
Edward Salcedo's playing career has been delayed due to suspicions about his valid age. He was once considered the top international prospect back in 2007 and was offered a $2.7 million signing bonus by the Cleveland Indians but was voided by the United States government due to his age. Edward Salcedo's first taste of the big leagues did not fair so well, averaging .225 with OPS of .640 in his split times with Dominican Summer League/South Atlantic League.[2]
